LEVEL DESIGN | ROAST BOY AND CARVERY GIRL
Roast Boy & Carvery Girl, designed by Alex Keates, is an isometric couch co-op, where you play as two characters, each with unique abilities and play styles, to overcome exciting challenges!
As level designer Jacob was tasked with creating 3 levels. He chose Texas! Players have to progress through the levels to reach a giant grease factory which is polluting nearby rivers, wildlife and the surrounding area.
His process began with paper planning, mood boards and research, followed by blocking out in Sketchup and UE4. Play-testing got underway immediately as Jacob believes this is one, if not the most important part of making a level that plays well and succeeds in its goal.
Jacobs thoughts on the experience: “Working with someone has its ups and downs but the best advantage is the motivation it brings one another, to keep focused on developing the best game!”
JACOB SIMPSON | YEAR 3 STUDENT
Born and raised in Preston, Jacob is now assistant Level Designer with Splash Damage. It’s a fantastic achievement and the course team are delighted to share this news! When not creating levels he is training for his first half marathon; being D&D Dungeon Master for friends; collecting Warhammer models; socialising and helping other people to the best of his ability. A great team player, check out Jacob’s Level Design Portfolio
